In 2001 the SAE Foundation and InterRegs Ltd joined forces to create a new engineering and homologation award. The SAE/InterRegs Standards and Regulations Award for Young Engineers was established by InterRegs as a way to reward participation in standards and regulations by young engineers, and to hopefully encourage increased participation in this field, in the future.
So far it has attracted some high-calibre nominations from well-known organisations in the automotive industry, with Award winners coming from Ford Motor Company, Delphi Corporation, GE Lighting.
The Award will be presented annually, during the SAE World Congress in Detroit or, during the SAE Government/Industry Meeting in Washington DC, USA.
The winning engineer will be presented with an engraved trophy and a US$1000 cash prize.
The SAE/InterRegs Standards and Regulations Award for Young Engineers will be awarded to a practising engineer under 40 involved in standards, regulations or conformity assessment systems which improved safety or reduced emissions in an automotive product – the nominee is required to author a 2000 word essay detailing how this was achieved.
The deadline for nominations for the next SAE/InterRegs Standards and Regulations Award is 1 August 2010.
