The Australian Federal Office for Road Safety (FORS) has issued a new ADR 42/04 General Safety Requirements. This new ADR is an updated version of ADR 42/03. The new ADR will contain clauses that will enable the repealing of ADR 7/00 – Hydraulic Brake Hoses, ADR 15/01 – Demisting of Windscreen, ADR 16/01 – Windscreen Wipers & Washers and ADR 24/02 – Tyres and Rim Selection.

The above ADR's will cease to apply from January 1, 2005 but manufacturers can choose to comply with ADR 42/04 prior to that date.

FORS has also repealed with immediate effect:

ADR 12/00 – Glare Reduction in Field of View, this is an old rule and modern trends of using plastic components has rendered this Rule obsolete.

ADR 20/00 – Safety Rims, the main characteristics of the Rule are contained in industry tyre and rim manuals and so industry practices has rendered this old ADR redundant.

ADR 71/00 – Temporary-Use Spare Tyres, this ADR was introduced to remove doubts that vehicles, in emergencies, could operate with mismatched tyres it has been established that this ADR has served its purpose and there is no need to retain it.
