The European Commission have recently published a consultation document outlining a number of proposed changes to the European legal requirements.

One of the proposed changes is the introduction of a new Regulation on tyres which will include:

  • More stringent requirements on tyre rolling noise limits.
  • The introduction of maximum rolling resistance requirements.
  • The introduction of minimum wet grip requirements.

The other proposals covered by the consultation concern the mandatory fitment of tyre pressure monitoring systems to passenger cars and the mandatory fitment of electronic stability control systems to all vehicle types.

The closing date for the submission of comments to the European Commission on this consultation document is 18th October 2007.
