The European Commission recently published two Delegated Regulations specifying amendments to Regulation (EU) 2018/858 on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

Numerous Amended and Updated UN ECE Regulations Enter Into Force
On June 4, 2026, all of the updates and amendments to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) Regulations that were adopted at the 197th session of the UN ECE World Forum for the Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) which took place in November 2025 entered into force.

NHTSA Proposes Revisions to FMVSS Regulations to Address Possible Introduction of Automated Driving Systems (ADS)
The rationale for many of the proposed actions is that removing/changing some of the requirements for vehicle manual controls would not affect the safety performance of ADS-equipped vehicles; however, the changes would remove unnecessary regulatory burdens and costs associated with a design to aid a person driving the vehicle. These actions are part of a larger NHTSA effort to address vehicle automation in the agency's regulations.
