Updates to the EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval Requirements Proposed
On November 19, 2025, the European Commission published a draft EU Regulation for public comment, which proposes updates to the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EU WVTA) requirements specified in (EU) 2018/858 on 'the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles'. The updates proposed within this draft Regulation are to reflect the latest technical and regulatory developments within the European Union and within the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE), including updates that would allow EU WVTA to be obtained for vehicles fitted with Automated Valet Parking (AVP) systems and vehicles fitted with Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS).
