The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a notice seeking an extension for public comment on its information collection regarding Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Published in the Federal Register on March 4, 2026 (Vol. 91, No. 42; Docket No. NHTSA–2026–0529), the notice invites public input on NHTSA’s request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for a three-year extension of a currently approved information collection.

This information collection covers incident reporting requirements for Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and Level 2 ADAS. NHTSA previously obtained a three-year approval for this collection and is now seeking OMB approval for a three-year extension of a modified version. The updated collection streamlines reporting requirements, reducing the burden compared to the previous version, while focusing more precisely on safety-critical information.
