The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a Final Rule (FR) on November 11, 2019 (F.R. Vol. 84 No. 228) responding to petitions for reconsideration to the October 2, 2019 FR for PART 580 Odometer Disclosure Requirements. This action delays some of the new requirements.
The new FR modifies Part 580 (Docket No. NHTSA-2019-0127) to change the exemption from the odometer disclosure requirements to take effect on January 1, 2021 and will apply to model year 2011 and newer vehicles. The amendments in the October 2, 2019, FR allowing States to adopt electronic odometer disclosure systems will still take effect on December 31, 2019 as originally scheduled. Petitions for reconsideration of this new FR must be received not later than January 10, 2020.
