Announcement of Department of Energy (DOE) meetings of its Electrical Vehicle Working Group to support recommendations to the Secretaries of Energy and Transportation for introduction of electrical vehicles to the light/medium/heavy vehicle classifications in the US.
Actions regarding improving safety for Child Restraint regulations (FMVSS 213/213a/213b). Many of these actions are responding to Petitions for Reconsideration and clarify testing procedures. The new FMVSS 213b is effective October 9, 2024 with mandatory compliance by December 5, 2026.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued extended Request for Comments (from November 4, 2024 to December 4, 2024 on a proposal (NPRM) for protection from debris penetration for Recreational Off-highway Vehicles (ROVs) and Utility Task/Terrain Vehicles (UTVs).
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proposing a modification to FMVSS 217 Bus Emergency Exits and Window Release and Retention to limit the protrusions on windows other than windshields. Compliance is required by October 30, 2027. (FR Vol 89 No 210)
- NHTSA is proposing a Final Rule (FR) for new FMVSS 217a Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release. It is scheduled to be effective December 30, 2024 with compliance by October 30, 2027. Petitions required to be submitted by December 16, 2024. (FR Vol 89 No 210)
