An updated version of the Chinese standard on safety requirements in the event of a rear end collision for passenger cars, GB 20072-2024, has recently been published. This updated version of the standard, which replaces the 2006 version, introduces numerous amendments to the requirements, including:
- The addition of specific requirements to cover electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.
- Revised requirements relating to the performance of the vehicle's battery during the rear impact.
- The addition of specific requirements on door openability after the rear impact.
- The addition of a new requirement for the vehicle's hazard warning signals to be automatically activated after the rear impact.
Compliance with this updated standard becomes mandatory for new types of passenger car from July 1, 2026, and will become mandatory for all new passenger cars from August 1, 2028.
