The European Commission has recently published a Delegated Regulation specifying amendments to Regulation (EU) 2024/1257 on the type approval of motor vehicles and engines and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles, with respect to their emissions and battery durability (Euro 7).
The existing EU Euro 7 emissions requirements specify that vehicles must comply with the applicable Euro 7 emissions limits throughout their 'main lifetime'. Furthermore, they also specify that, during an 'additional lifetime' period that extends 25% beyond the 'main lifetime', vehicles must comply with the applicable Euro 7 emissions limits multiplied by a defined durability multiplier. However, in the original version of (EU) 2024/1257, durability multipliers were only specified for M1, N1 and M2 category vehicles.
European Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/1216, which was published on August 13, 2026, addresses this situation by amending (EU) 2024/1257 to introduce 'additional lifetime' durability multipliers for M3, N2 and N3 category vehicles.
