The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China have recently published updated versions of the Chinese standards covering Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems for both light duty vehicles and heavy duty vehicles which convert these standards from GB/T standards into mandatory GB Standards.

Former Chinese Standard GB/T 30677-2014 on Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems for light duty (M1 and N1 category) vehicles has been replaced by Chinese Standard GB 30677-2026 and former Chinese Standard GB/T 38185-2019 on Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems for heavy duty (M2, M3, N2 and N3 category) vehicles has been replaced by Chinese Standard GB 38185-2026.

In addition to converting these Chinese Standards into mandatory GB standards, the updated versions also introduce new requirements on functional safety and amendments to some of the detailed technical requirements and test procedures.

Compliance with GB 30677-2026 becomes mandatory for new types of light duty (M1 and N1 category) vehicle from January 1, 2028 and for all new light duty vehicles from February 1, 2029.

Compliance with GB 38185-2026 becomes mandatory for new types of heavy duty (M2, M3, N2 and N3 category) vehicle from January 1, 2028. For existing types of heavy duty vehicle, compliance with GB 38185-2026, apart from the requirements on functional safety, becomes mandatory from February 1, 2029 and compliance with the full requirements of GB 38185-2026, including those on functional safety, becomes mandatory from February 1, 2030.
