A new amendment to Chinese standard GB 7258-2017 on the technical specifications for safety of power driven vehicles operating on roads, has recently been made. This amendment introduces requirements on the mandatory fitment of event data recorders to passenger cars, requiring that all passenger cars manufactured from January 1, 2022 must be fitted with either an Event Data Recorder (EDR), meeting the requirements of GB 39732-2020, or an on board driving video recording system meeting the requirements of GB/T 38892-2020.
