With regard to the new "Full" GB Type Approval scheme, compliance with which became mandatory from February 1, 2024 for new types of M and N category vehicle (i.e. passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, buses, coaches, pick ups, vans and trucks), the UK Government have introduced some amendments to this scheme via a Statutory Instrument that was "laid before Parliament" on February 15, 2024. The amendments introduced by this Statutory Instrument, which come into force on March 7, 2024, affect the GB Retained Versions of (EU) 2018/858, (EU) 2020/683 and (EU) 1003/2010, and include:
- Updates to the list of UN ECE Regulations which are recognised as being equivalent to the GB Type Approval requirements, including the recognition of the UN ECE Regulations on emissions from both light duty and heavy duty vehicles as being equivalent to the GB requirements.
- Revisions to the GB Type Approval requirements on rear registration plate space to allow compliance with the latest EU technical requirements on rear registration plate space as an alternative to compliance with the GB requirements.
