In the June 6, 2024 Federal Register (Vol. 89 No. 110, Docket No. NHTSA-2024-0006) NHTSA published an extension of the comment period for 30 days until July 17, 2024 for the hydrogen related Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) issued in the April 17, 2024 Federal Register.
The NPRM proposed to establish two new FMVSSs specifying performance requirements for all motor vehicles that use hydrogen as a fuel source. The proposed standards are based on Global Technical Regulation (GTR) No. 13 Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Vehicles. FMVSS 307 Fuel System Integrity of Hydrogen Vehicles specifies requirements for the integrity of the fuel system during normal vehicle operations and after crashes. FMVSS 308 Compressed Hydrogen Storage System Integrity specifies requirements for the compressed hydrogen storage system to ensure the safe storage of hydrogen onboard vehicles.
The comment period extension is available on InterRegs.NET for our US Federal subscribers, and is also available at Selectregs.
