The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China have recently revised and updated some of the key Chinese standards on lighting and light signalling devices for motorcycles and mopeds.
Chinese Standard GB 17510-2008 on light signalling devices for motorcycles and mopeds has been replaced by an updated version; GB 17510-2025. Both Chinese Standard GB 19152-2016 on motorcycle headlamps emitting a symmetrical passing beam, driving beam or both, and Chinese Standard GB 5948-1998 on photometric characteristics of motorcycle headlamps equipped with a filament light source, have been replaced by an updated Chinese Standard amalgamating the two previous Standards into one: GB 19152-2025. Also, Chinese Standard GB 18100-2010 on the installation of lighting and light signalling devices for motorcycles and mopeds, which was previously separated into three parts, has been replaced by an updated Chinese Standard which consolidates the previous three parts into one: GB 18100-2025.
The amendments incorporated into these updated Chinese Standards are mainly to reflect the latest ‘start of art’ in motorcycle lighting design and to more closely align their requirements with the equivalent United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) Regulations on motorcycle lighting.
Compliance with GB 17510-2025 becomes mandatory for new types of light signalling device from January 1, 2026 and for all new light signalling devices from August 1, 2026. Compliance with GB 19152-2025 becomes mandatory for new types of headlamp from January 1, 2026 and for all new headlamps from February 1, 2027. Compliance with GB 18100-2025 becomes mandatory for new types of motorcycle and moped from January 1, 2026 and for all new motorcycles and mopeds from August 1, 2027.
