An 02 Series of Amendments to UN ECE Regulation No. 39 on speedometers and odometers were adopted at the 195th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) World Forum for the Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), and this Series of Amendments entered into force on September 26, 2025. This 02 Series of Amendments introduces new requirements on the accuracy of the distance values recorded and displayed by the odometer, and introduces a new test procedure to verify compliance with these accuracy requirements. Additionally, this Series of Amendments introduces new anti-tampering requirements for odometers to prevent manipulation of the distance values recorded and displayed by the odometer.

Compliance with the 02 Series of Amendments to UN ECE Regulation No. 39 will become mandatory for new type approvals from September 1, 2028 and for all type approvals from September 1, 2030.

UN ECE Regulation No. 39, incorporating the 02 Series of Amendments, is available on InterRegs.NET for our ECE subscribers, and is also available at Selectregs.
