The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Propose Changes to use of 6GHz and MidBand Spectrum

The FCC issued a proposal in the February 26, 2024 Federal Register [ET Docket No. 18-295 and GN Docket No. 17-183; FCC 23-86; FR ID 192755] exploring additional steps it could take and rules it could modify to provide more utility for very low power (VLP) unlicensed devices. The Commission seeks comment on permitting higher power VLP devices under a two-tiered system. Commission also seeks comment on VLP device requirements and limits for operation in the U-NII-6 (6.425-6.525 GHz) and U-NII-8 (6.875-7.125 GHz) bands. In referencing existing testing results and previously submitted comments, it cites potential effect on the V2X and the related safety consequences. Comments are due on or before March 27, 2024 and reply comments are due on or before April 26, 2024.
