Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 on batteries and waste batteries, which was published in July 2023, introduced a requirement for battery manufacturers to declare the carbon footprint of certain categories of battery that they produce, and electric vehicle batteries are one of those categories. To allow for the implementation of this requirement, on April 30, 2024, the European Commission published two draft Regulations relating to the carbon footprint of electric vehicle batteries.

The first of these draft EU Regulations, referred to as Ares(2024)3131389, specifies the methodology to be used for the calculation and verification of the carbon footprint of electric vehicle batteries. The second one, referred to as Ares(2024)3131449, specifies the format for the carbon footprint declaration itself.

Both of these draft Regulations are available on InterRegs.NET for our EC subscribers and are also available at Selectregs.
