Reminder to Submit Your Comments on FMVSS 304 CNG Fuel Container Integrity

For anyone wanting to file comments regarding the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for FMVSS 304 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel Container Integrity (Federal Register [FR] Vol. 84 No. 120; Docket No. NHTSA-2019-0055); comments must be received by August 20, 2019.

This proposal is the result of petitions and would amend visual inspection labeling requirements to state that CNG fuel containers used on heavy vehicles should be inspected at least once every 12 months. NHTSA has tentatively concluded that multiple visual inspections per year based solely on mileage would not improve vehicle safety for these high-mileage CNG heavy vehicles, and could potentially reduce safety.

The proposed compliance date for the amendments would be one year after the date of publication of the Final Rule in the FR.

This NPRM is available on InterRegs.NET for our US Federal subscribers and is also available at www.selectregs.com.
