Canada Concerned about Lack of Action on Recalled Vehicles

Canada published in the Canada Gazette Vol.157 No.24 Part I, Proposal - MVSR 17.06.2023. It is estimated that up to 20% of vehicles in use on Canada's roads have an unresolved safety recall including safety issues affecting vehicles, restraint systems for children and disabled persons, and tyres that can lead to property damage, injury or even death. Companies must send notifications to current owners and prescribed persons of a safety recall; however, many still go unresolved. The proposed amendments would require companies designated by the Minister of Transport to include an online search tool that would provide safety recall information that is specific to one vehicle (17-character Vehicle Identification Number [VIN]) on their websites.

The Proposal is available on InterRegs.NET for our Canada subscribers and is also available at www.selectregs.com.
